“Henry Poole is Here”
Luke Wilson as ‘Henry Poole’-2008.
I just had the pleasure of watching Overature Films’ 2008 “Henry Poole is Here” on Netflix’s Watch Instantly (which my boyfriend and I just love because sometimes we are lazy bums and can’t be bothered to walk the two blocks to Blockbuster). The film which stars Luke Wilson and Radha Mitchell as well as Adriana Barraza and Morgan Lily was released on DVD in the U.S in January 2009. While not having many people recognize this movie, I did remember seeing previews for this film when I came across the name on Netflix. It was one of those “Hey! I remember seeing the preview, this movie looked good…how come we never saw it?” I decided to give it a go, and was very pleasantly surprised and taken aback to how powerful this movie was. I have to admit that I did get a little teary eyed touched by the way Wilson’s character Henry, Barraza’s Esperanza and Mitchell’s Dawn interacted with each other.

Esperanza, the “pushy”, relentless yet loving neighbor and Dawn as the lovely and sexy mother of six year old Milly (Lily), Poole’s other neighbor. The quirky group interact delicately with each other during the course of the movie and Henry Poole has a secret which he hides until the very end. ‘Henry Poole’ has a powerful message and surprising ending to a touching story. I recommend!
